Thinking About Options

Experience

Experience is all the things we have done and all the things that have happened to us.

Some experiences were great. You may want to repeat them.

Other experiences were bad. You may not want them to happen again.

We can learn from both good and bad experiences.

You might need support to remember what you have done before.

You can ask a person you trust and who has known you for a long time to help you remember what has happened in the past to help you remember.

Consequences

Consequences are the good and the bad things that might happen when you make a decision.

When you think about your options you need to think about the consequences of each option. You might need support to think about the good and bad things that might happen.

When you think about consequences you might think about:

  • What are the good things that could happen if I choose this option?
  • What are the bad things that could happen if I choose this option?
  • Has this happened before?
  • What other things might happen if I do this?
  • Is there something else that might work?
  • Who else could this option affect?

The best option for now

Sometimes it can be hard to find good options that are exactly what you want.

Sometimes you have to choose an option that is just ‘okay’.

This might mean you only get part of what you want.

You might have to choose the best option for now.

You may make a plan to review once you have more time.

Remember you can change your mind later.
