Rights are things that we all have.
You can not see your rights.
Rights are the basic things that governments and communities must do to make sure all people have a good life.
People with disabilities have the same rights as people that do not have a disability.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (the Convention) says this.
One right you have is the freedom to make your own decisions.
When you make your own decisions you have control over your life.
If you are unable to make decisions on your own then the Convention says that you should have someone to support you to decide.
All people, regardless of their disability, have the right to be part of the decisions that affect them.
They may need support to do this.
If you are not making decisions about the things that affect you then your human rights are being denied.
You should remind people that you have the right to make decisions.
Even if you have a guardian you have the right to say what you would like.
Your guardain is supposed to think about this when they make decisions on your behalf.
